Scripture in the Morning #155
John Owens premise, which we will expound upon here over a dozen or so morning messages is this – that we as believers should have specific and independent communion with each member of the Trinity.
That is, we should each have an abiding relationship of love and praise for the Father separate from (and in addition to) the Son and Spirit. We should have a relationship with the Son separate from (and in addition to) the Father and Spirit. And we should have a relationship of praise & enjoyment of God the Holy Spirit separate from (and in addition to) the Father and Son.
Owen is entirely Trinitarian – God is three and yet one. His point is that we need to see the One and Praise the one Triune God – but also appreciate and praise the Father for His love and grace to us – and do the same for the Son and the same for the Spirit. That is, we are to commune with God in His singular yet Triune greatness, recognizing the reality of the Personhood of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
He is saying that each person of the triune Godhead is God and is one – and we should praise and thank and worship each Person of the Triune God both separately and as one. He posits that we should have a loving daily relationship with Father, Son and Holy Spirit both as Three and as One.
It will be a journey worth taking with much to learn. For today…
Matt 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit
May we praise Father, Son and Holy Spirit this great day – the Three who are One and the One who is Three.
